Emergency Preparedness

The Department of Public Safety Officers are highly trained first responders and are prepared to take action to any emergency situation that may arise on campus. A Crisis Management Team as well as an Incident Management Team are in place to allow immediate response by individuals performing specific roles and functions already predefined. An Emergency Management Plan has been developed by the Department of Public Safety as part of our ongoing effort to protect Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ students, faculty, and staff.

StagAlert

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ utilizes an emergency notification system provided by Blackboard Connect, locally referred to as StagAlert, as one method to notify and relay information to students, faculty, and staff in the event of a significant emergency.

The StagAlert system is able to send messages simultaneously as voice calls, text messages, and e-mail messages. Depending on the nature of the situation, any or all of these methods may be used to communicate with the intended recipients.

Crime Prevention

The Department of Public Safety is authorized by Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ to prevent, investigate, and report any violations of State or Federal Law and/or University regulations on campus. Message From The Director

‌Thank you for your interest in the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ Department of Public Safety.

We are proud to be a highly visible and proactive safety agency. The department protects personal safety, conducts criminal investigations, provides emergency medical care and enforces on-campus traffic and parking regulations.

We strive to be a service-oriented team, which sets us apart from the traditional roles of public safety. Some of these services include safety escorts, motor vehicle assists, crime prevention programs as well as Rape Aggression Defense instruction.

The Department of Public Safety contributes to the mission and goals of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ, both in spirit and in deed, through its policies, practices and actions.

Please explore our various links to learn more about the department. We invite you to visit our office located on the ground floor of Loyola Hall.

Bicycle Patrol

‌In 1992, the department implemented a Bike Patrol into its existing operations. These bikes serve as a supplement to the marked cruisers and foot patrol. By maneuvering over sidewalks and through paths, fields, and blocked roads on campus, Officers are able to respond to incidents quickly. This also creates increased presence, dialogue and interaction with the student's faculty and staff.

Bicycle Patrol Officers:

  • Patrol during all hours of the day and in almost any type of weather
  • Carry condensed medical kits and are Emergency Medical Technicians
  • Receive training in bike tactics and are nationally certified through the Law Enforcement Bicycle Association

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÒÅÆ's Bicycle Patrol has trained alongside Bicycle Patrol Officers from Danbury Police, New York City Housing Police, Darien Police, Yale University, Sacred Heart University Public Safety, Bridgeport University Security and Southern Connecticut State University Police.

The Team helped create patrols at Columbia University, Scarsdale Police, Stamford Police, Western Connecticut State University and Weston Police.
